VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Tennis team concluded their Spring Break trip to Virginia Beach with losses to Hampton, Shaw, and Virginia Wesleyan.

Against the Division I Pirates, freshman Sergi Rodriguez secured the lone meet point with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles. FSU was able to earn another win in the meet, as freshmen Tiago Iser and Nate Carter took a 6-2 victory in No. 3 doubles. Hampton still was able to secure the doubles point and five of the six singles matches for a 6-1 final.

In the second match against Shaw, the Bobcats picked up a pair of singles wins, as senior Cole Alcala won a marathon 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 match at No. 2, while freshman Gabriel Carrillo took a 7-6, 6-4 sweep at No. 3. Rodriguez and Carrillo also combined for a 6-2 doubles win, however the Bears narrowly won 7-5 at both Nos. 1 and 3, taking the meet score 4-2.

Closing out the week against Division III Virginia Wesleyan, Carrillo and Rodriguez picked up another victory in No. 2 doubles at 6-3, however the Marlins took the other two matches for the meet point. In singles play, Rodriguez earned a 7-6, 6-3 sweep for Frostburg's first point, then Carrillo (4-6, 6-3, 7-5) and Iser (6-4, 1-6, 6-2) took three-set wins to pull even in the meet. The result would come down to the top singles spot, where Alcala narrowly fell 6-2, 3-6, 7-5, allowing VWU to take the meet 4-3.

With the losses, Frostburg drops to 4-5 on the year and will return to action on Friday, March 27 for a road match against West Liberty at 3 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
