SALEM, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Women's Swimming team picked up a pair of wins at the Salem tri-meet, defeating the hosts 185-50 and Southern Virginia 161-92.

FSU began the meet strong, as juniors Gaby Betancourt, Mackenzie Payne, and Jayme Meadows joined freshman Riley Denard in winning the 200-yard medley relay at 1:55.48. Betancourt would later secure a victory in the 100 back (1:03.86), while Meadows took second in the 200 free (2:02.77) and placed third in the 50 free (25.96), with sophomore Genna Rippeon taking the latter event in 25.16.

Rippeon (1:00.63) would later lead a 1-2-3 Bobcat finish in the 100 fly, where junior Morgan Greenlee (1:05.60) was second and freshman Kallie Gyurisin (1:06.73) third. That would be the first Frostburg podium sweep, as freshman Jenna Handwerger (2:20.83) led another charge in the 200 IM, followed by junior Alexis Ramsey (2:22.70) and sophomore Ashley Ellsworth (2:24.27).

Handwerger was arguably FSU's top performer on the day, as she also took victories in the 1,000 free (11:05.44) and the 100 breast (1:12.78). Sophomore Taylor Emrich finished runner-up to her teammate in the former event (11:35.03) before earning a win of her own in the 500 free (5:37.39). Greenlee and Ramsey would take the final two Frostburg wins on the day, with the former victorious in the 200 fly (2:22.47) and the latter winning the 200 breast (2:45.07).

As they started the meet, the Bobcats concluded things on top with Payne, Meadows, Rippeon, and junior Reagan Chase taking the 200 free relay in 1:42.11.

With the sweep, Frostburg improves to 6-2 on the year and will next travel to Cal (Pa.) to take part in the Vulcan Invite and Winter Frenzy beginning Friday, January 16. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
