Mastria, Boards Earn Victories, Sivic Sets Top-5 PV Mark for Women's Track & Field

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Women's Track & Field team opened their outdoor season at the Marty Pushkin Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
 
Junior Valerie Boards and sophomore Bella Mastria each took home victories for the Bobcats, the former winning the 200m in 25.75 and the latter taking the long jump at 5.30m. Both were also members of the runner-up 4x100m relay team, joining sophomore Lucy Crowe and freshman Erin Collins at 49.95.
 
Mastria was also the Bobcats' top performer in the 100m (sixth place, 12.83) and 100m hurdles (fifth place, 16.91), while Crowe set a pair of personal bests in the 400m (sixth place, 1:01.49) and the 100m (13.58) and came fifth in the long jump (4.92m). Also in the sprints, freshman Gwen Bates PR'd in the 400m (1:11.35) while junior Claire Breighner did the same in the 200m (32.24).
 
During the 5K, a trio of Bobcats set personal records in seniors Amy Tarcza (19:40.51) and Chelsea Montau (20:36.61) and sophomore Clare Woodring (22:22.90). In the field events, freshman Reghan Sivic impressed at the pole vault, earning fourth overall with a leap of 2.75m, which ties her for fifth all-time in program history. Freshman Sydney Johnson led the throws with a seventh-place finish in the discus at 34.03m.
 
Frostburg next will have a split team travel to take part in the Raleigh Relays from Thursday, March 27 until Saturday, March 29, while also competing in the Tim Weaver Invite at West Liberty on the latter date. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
