Another Season-High Set as A&T Takes Top-10 Matchup Over HPU

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Acrobatics & Tumbling team knotted their first win of the season over a ranked opponent, defeating No. 9 Hawaii Pacific by a score of 266.970-258.035 at home on Saturday afternoon.

Frostburg started things off strong, going for a 9.55, 9.7, and 9.9 in their first three heats of the compulsory event, all having a start value of 10, outscoring HPU 37.55-36.45. The Bobcats scored a 9.65, 9.25, and 9.55 in the acro event, for a 29.85 score, while the Sharks highest score was a 9.55 in the 7-element, for a 25.40 total in the event.

Both teams excelled in the pyramid heat, with each program scoring a 9.55 or higher in all three heats. FSU performed fantastic scores in all heats, going for a 9.8 in the inversion, 9.75 in the synchronized, and 9.85 in the open, all of which were out of a start value of 10. HPU was a close match, scoring a 9.65 in both the inversion and open, and a 9.55 in the synchronized, all of which were out of a starting value of 10 as well. The pyramid heat allowed Frostburg to sit with a 95.40 total at halftime, while Hawaii Pacific finished with a 90.70 total at the half.

The Bobcats continued to hold a steady advantage over HPU, scoring three more high scores in the toss heat, going for 9.30 out of 9.50 in the 450 salto, 9.55 out of 9.90 in the synchronized, and 9.6 out of 9.90 in the open. The Sharks held the advantage in the open heat with a 9.65 score out of 9.90, as totals were brought to 123.85 for Frostburg and 118.35 for Hawaii Pacific heading into the tumbling event.

For the first time in the meet, HPU won an event, with a narrow 54.225-54.05 victory in tumbling, with the Sharks putting up high scores of 9.675 in the aeriel pass, 9.6 in the 6-element pass, and 9.5 in the open pass. In the same three heats, FSU finished with high scores of 9.825, 9.375, and 9.75. In the final event of the match, the team event, Frostburg went on to put up an 89.07 score, compared to HPU's 85.46, allowing the Bobcats to take the meet with a final score of 266.970-258.035.

With the win, FSU improves to 3-1 on the season, while Hawaii Pacific moves to 1-4. The Bobcats will go on the road for their next meet on Thursday, March 14 as they travel to take on West Liberty at 6 PM. For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
