Baker Scores 9.95 in Open Pass as Acrobatics & Tumbling Falls to #4 Gannon

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Acrobatics & Tumbling team fell at home to No. 4 Gannon 267.635-260.590 on Saturday afternoon.

The Knights opened up with three strong performances in the compulsory event, with each being above a 9.45 on their way to a 37.40 for the event as a whole. FSU was able to match them in both the pyramid and toss heats, scoring a 9.75 and 9.85, respectively, finishing with a 36.50 total.

Each side was again evenly matched in the acro event, both scoring a 9.75 in the 5-element and a 9.20 in the 6-element, but it would be GU to take the event with a 9.05 in the 7-element to win narrowly 28-27.30.

In the pyramid, the Bobcats finally secured an event win, using a whopping 9.90 in the inversion and a 9.75 in the open heat to come out on top 28.65-28.05. Gannon still held a close one-point lead at the half 93.45-92.45 with each of their pyramids scoring at least 9.30.

Having lost their first event of the meet, the Knights came back fighting in the toss, outscoring Frostburg in each of the first two heats, before FSU eked out a 9.60-9.55 advantage in the open heat. Still, GU furthered their meet score advantage to almost three points with a 27.95-26.40 decision.

The teams went back-and-forth to start the tumbling heat, with the Bobcats taking the duo pass with a 9.45 before Gannon responded with three straight heat victories. Frostburg hit back through senior Sydney Green earning a 9.70 out of 9.80, followed by senior Abbie Baker's near-perfect 9.95 in the open pass, as FSU won 54.30-53.425 and closing the total score gap to 174.825-173.150.

As the meet came down to the team event, GU opened strong with a 92.81 on their way to a 267.635 final. FSU wasn't able to match, but their 87.44 was still good enough to score their highest meet of the season at 260.590.

With the loss, Frostburg falls to 1-1 on the year, while Gannon improves to 3-0. The Bobcats return to action on Sunday, February 25 to host Glenville State at 1 p.m. at home. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
