Men's Tennis Drops Opening Match to UVA Wise Despite Doubles Point, Alcala Win

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State Men's Tennis team lost their first match of the Fall season to UVA Wise by a final score of 5-2.

FSU began the match on the front foot, winning the doubles point by way of victories at No. 1 and No. 2. Sophomores Cole Alcala and German Diaz scored a 6-4 win at the top spot, then after the Cavaliers tied it up by taking the No. 3 match, freshmen Peter Barun and Viktor Boban won the point with a hard-fought 7-5 decision.

In singles play, Alcala went the distance in a 7-6, 3-6, 10-8 victory, but that would be the only decision going the Bobcats' way. UVA Wise took each of the other five matches, as freshman Field Myatt came closest to earning another point for FSU in a narrow 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 loss.

With the result, Frostburg begins the year 0-1, while the Cavaliers are now 3-0. The Bobcats return to the court on Tuesday, October 3 to face District of Columbia at 2 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
