Women's Rugby Announces 2023 Coaching Staff

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Rugby program and Head Coach Jeff Horton have announced John Baker and Sarah Giachetti to join the staff for the program's inaugural season in 2023.

Baker, who will serve as assistant coach, comes to Frostburg from Alderson Broaddus, where he helped to start the Battlers' men's and women's rugby programs, being the assistant coach for both teams in 2018 before becoming the head coach for each in 2021. Prior to his time at AB, Baker performed various coaching roles from 2012-18 for West Virginia University's Men's Rugby Club, where he led the team to three conference championships and two appearances at the USA Rugby National Collegiate Rugby Championship Tournament.

Baker attended the University of Richmond, earning his Bachelor's degree while playing for the Rugby Football Club from 2002-03. Baker continued his rugby career another 10 years, playing for several clubs across the country, most recently with the West Virginia War Hounds in 2014. He holds USA Rugby level 100 and 200 certifications and is currently working to attain his level 300.

Giachetti, named the team's graduate assistant, joins FSU after playing for Coach Horton at Kent State from 2012-16.  Giachetti helped lead Kent State to three-straight Mid-American Conference Champions from 2013-15, as well as an Elite 8 appearance in 2015. She served as the team captain from 2014-16, prior to becoming the program's assistant coach in 2017.

Giachetti received her Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Kent State, then earned her Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from West Virginia University.  Giachetti has served as a traveling speech pathologist since 2020, working in Texas, Ohio, and Arizona, as she now serves in Maryland under Aureus Medical Group.
