Bowdoin Uses Fast Start to Hand Women's Rugby First Loss of Season

PRINCETON, NJ – The Frostburg State women's rugby team lost its first contest of the year to Bowdoin by a 41-20 final.

The Bobcats played their fourth straight road game to start the season in a battle of unbeaten and ranked NIRA teams.

BC opened scoring with an early try and conversion in the third minute, as FSU was able to take possession of the ball and answer with a score of their own on a try by senior Liberty Cawthorn, though the conversion was unsuccessful for a 7-5 Polar Bear lead. Bowdoin converted a penalty kick and then took over the rest of the half, netting three straight tries in a 10-minute span to move ahead 27-5.

The second half saw BC continue their momentum, coming out and scoring twice more within 15 minutes for a 41-5 score. FSU wouldn't go lying down, as sophomore Scout Spadoni added a try to get the Bobcats on the board in the second half. Four minutes later, junior LJ Jordan added a try before tacking on another five minutes later, with the final score standing at 41-20.

With the loss Frostburg is now 3-1 on the season while Bowdoin improves to 3-0. FSU will next play its home opener against Mount St. Mary's on Sunday, October 5 at 1 p.m. for Homecoming Weekend. For more information, please visit frostburgsports.com
