Baseball Standout Maruskin Signs with Baltimore Orioles Organization

FROSTBURG, Md. - Frostburg State Baseball has produced a professional player from their 2023 senior class, with Jack Maruskin joining the in-state Baltimore Orioles minor league system this past week.
Maruskin received the opportunity to join the organization on the rookie deal shortly after the conclusion of the 2023 Draft last week, where he will await his first assignment.

"I'm blessed and excited to get started with the O's.", said Maruskin. "Frostburg got me to where I am now, developing me into a better man and pitcher. I couldn't thank my coaches and teammates more and I can't wait to keep growing and see where this opportunity takes me."
Following his senior season in which he helped guide the Bobcats to the MEC Tournament Title game and a North Division Championship, Maruskin joined the MLB Draft League Frederick Keys organization. In seven appearances with Frederick, Maruskin compiled a 3.18 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 11.1 innings pitched while holding apposing batters to a .225 average. Maruskin received the opportunity to join the organization on the rookie deal shortly after the conclusion of the 2023 Draft last week.  In his four year career with the Bobcats, Maruskin operated as a two-way player, initially as the team's starting right fielder, registering a career average of .313 with 22 doubles, eight triples and 22 stolen bases. In communicating with Head Coach Anthony Williams, he made the transition into a full-time pitching role, making 32 appearances across two seasons, securing four wins, three saves, while fanning 92 batters and keeping opponents to a total .212 average.

"We are very proud of Jack and excited he is getting the chance to chase his dreams. He has had quite the journey to this point, I don't think many would have predicted he would be in this position 5 years ago as a freshman outfielder. His maturity over his college career as a person and player has been incredible. I think every guy in our locker room would agree that he has earned this opportunity through a ridiculous work ethic and a high level of grit, energy, and leadership.  His impact on our program will be long lasting and we can't wait to see him pitch as a professional" said Williams.
