Canapp Earns MEC Men's Swimmer of the Year, Brinton Named Coach of the Year

BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. - The Mountain East Conference announced its end of season swimming awards, of which sophomore Nate Canapp was named the Men's Swimmer of the Year, while head coach Matt Brinton earned coach of the year honors.

Canapp was the leading scorer for the conference at the GMAC/MEC Championships, securing three individual First Team All-MEC finishes to go with three Second Team All-MEC honors. It is the second-straight season he has received a major award from the MEC, having been named last season's Men's Freshman of the Year.

Brinton was named the coach of the year for both the men's and women's programs, leading each team to a conference championship in his first season at the helm of the program. The men's championship is the first in program history, while the women repeated as back-to-back MEC champions. Both the men's and women's programs completed undefeated regular season conference schedules, while also being named CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams.
