FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Tennis team earned a home victory over California (Pa.) with a final score of 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
FSU swept the doubles competition, earning themselves an early match point. The duo of sophomore Lorena Pintar and freshman Alyssa Kush won their match with a score of 6-4. Sophomores Mariaspa Kotsiou and Julia Ramos the secured a 6-3 victory, followed by senior Immanuella Odiong and sophomore Femke Hofkamp putting a cherry on top with a dominant score of 6-1.
Pintar earned another point for FSU, going back and forth with her opponent in the singles competition to knot a 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 victory. Ramos also dominated in her singles match, getting a 6-1, 6-1 win. Kotsiou went on to tally another point for the Bobcats, taking her match with a 6-3, 7-5 score. Odiong and senior Madison Toothman were credited with two more singles points for FSU, with Odiong winning 6-2, 6-0 and Toothman fighting to the finish for a 6-4, 6-2 win. Kush came up just shy in her singles match, taking her opponent to three sets, but falling with a close score of 6-3, 3-6, 11-9.
With the win, Frostburg improves to 7-6 on the year while the Vulcans fall to 6-7. The Bobcats will remain at home for their next match, as they host Salem (WV) on Friday, March 31, with match time set for 3 PM. For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
