WACO, Texas - The Frostburg State Acrobatics & Tumbling team continues to set program records, securing a new high score against No. 1 Baylor in a 283.305-273.510 road loss on Wednesday night.

The Bears started out the meet in the compulsory event with first three heat scores of 9.75, 9.95, and a perfect 10, proving their first overall ranking on the way to a total 38.550 score. FSU was eager to show that they could compete with the top dogs, earning impressive scores of 9.90 in the pyramid heat and a stunning 9.95 in the toss heat, finding themselves just behind with a total of 37.5 for the event.

Both teams were mostly evenly matched in the acro heat, with neither side scoring below a 9.50 in any heat. The Bears came out narrowly ahead 29.350-28.850, scoring a 9.95 in the 5-element, 9.75 in the 7-element, and 9.65 in the 6-element. In keeping the meet competitive, the Bobcats earned scores of 9.70 in the 5-element, 9.65 in the 7-element, and 9.50 in the 6-element.

Each side was outstanding in the pyramid event, with no scores lower than a 9.90 across the six total heats. Baylor was nearly flawless, scoring a 10 in the inversion, 9.95 in the open, and 9.90 in the synchronized for an astounding event score of 29.85. Frostburg fired right back with a trio of 9.90's in every heat, pushing their total to 29.70 at the end of the event. At halftime, BU held a tight 97.75-96.05 lead after three events.

In the toss event, the Bears continued to impress, slowly getting better throughout with scores of 9.60 in the 450 salto, 9.70 in the synchronized, and 9.75 in the open for a total of 29.05. With lower starting values, FSU nonetheless had less deductions in all three heats, scoring 9.15 in both the 450 salto and synchronized heats with starting values of 9.40 in both, followed by a perfect 9.90 in the open heat with a 9.90 start value for an event score of 28.20.

Baylor came out on top again in the tumbling event, earning 58.00 points to Frostburg's 54.90, scoring at least 9.15 in each heat. Their high scores included a 9.925 in the aerial pass and a near-flawless 9.95 in the open pass. The Bobcats' best marks came in the duo pass (9.40), aerial and 6-element (9.45), and open (9.75) passes.

Going into the team event, BU had a lead of 184.80 to FSU's 179.15. As they had done all meet, the Bears topped the finale, scoring a 98.41 compared to the Bobcats' 94.36, resulting in their final 283.210-273.510 victory.

For Baylor, it marked the third time this season that they have gone over the 280-point barrier, so far the only team in the country to do so. Frostburg's score set another program record this season, the third time they have done so.

With the win, BU improves to 5-0, while FSU falls to 6-1 on the year. The Bobcats will return to action against another top-five program, as they face No. 4 Quinnipiac on Saturday, April 1 at 1 p.m. in Hamden, CT. Information and updates will be posted at frostburgsports.com.
