Men's Tennis Earns First Spring Win

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Frostburg State Men's Tennis team defeated Saint Ambrose by a narrow score of 4-3 on Tuesday morning. 
 
Frostburg swept the doubles competition, earning three wins from the teams of freshmen German Diaz and Cole Alcala, sophomore Matt Bolen and junior Del Carden, and freshman Noah Fisher and senior Mason Hordubay. Diaz and Alcala started the day off with a 7-5 victory, followed by another close win as Bolen and Carden defeated their opponents by a score of 7-6.  Fisher and Hordubay finished off the sweep with a score of 6-2, earning FSU's the doubles point. 
 
Both teams were evenly matched in singles, with each side earning three wins.  Diaz and Alcala both earned singles points as well, with Diaz defeating his opponent with a score of 6-1, 6-2, and Alcala earning the point with a 6-4, 6-2 victory.  Senior Dean Waterman earned the third Bobcat singles point of the day with a score of 6-4, 6-4 to secure the meet victory.  Bolen put up a close effort in his singles competition winning the first set 6-4, but dropping the next two. 
 
With the win, Frostburg earns their second win of the year to go to 2-7 while St. Ambrose moves to 6-7.  The Bobcats will remain in Hilton Head to take on Millikin tomorrow, March 22 with match time set for 1 PM, followed by a match against Union at 5:30 p.m.  For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
