HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Frostburg State Women's Tennis team suffered a narrow 5-4 loss to Carleton in their first match of their Spring Break trip.

Freshman Alyssa Kush and sophomore Lorena Pintar got FSU's first point on the board with a smooth 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, followed by sophomores Mariaspa Kotsiou and Julia Ramos taking another victory 8-5 in No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Femke Hofkamp and senior Madison Toothman went the distance in a narrow 7-6 (7-3 tiebreak) loss, preventing the Bobcat doubles sweep.

Kush (6-2, 6-2) and Ramos (7-5, 6-0) took wins at Nos. 1 and 4 singles, respectively, but the Knights took each of the four other matches to steal the 5-4 meet victory. Kotsiou put up a valiant fight in a tight 6-7, 6-3, 10-4 loss at No. 3 singles.

With the loss, Frostburg falls to 4-6 on the year, while Carleton improves to 8-0. The women return to action tomorrow, March 21 for a match against St. Ambrose set to begin at 9 a.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
