Five Pick Up Wins for Women's Wrestling in Tri-Meet Against Spartans, Big Blue

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Wrestling team faced Bluefield State and York (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon, losing both matches in a pair of close contests.
 
Against the Big Blue, the first match-up came at 123 lbs, with freshman Jada Fowler dominating from the start in a 10-0 tech fall win over Raelie Hernandez. With each team limited in numbers, the only other match that was scored came at 170 lbs, where freshman Maria Hiles recovered from an early takedown to pin Charniece McClarence and win FSU five points. As the scores were tallied, BSU took the narrow win 20-19, with four wins coming by forfeit, compared to two for the Bobcats.
 
A pair of exhibition matches were also held, as Bluefield took the first with at 116 lbs with a pinfall, before sophomore Sarah Sunday earned a 10-0 tech fall win at 155 lbs.

In the second match against YCP, Fowler continued her dominant form, winning another tech fall at 12-1 over Ava Weibly to put FSU on the board. She was followed up by freshman Lillie Costilla battling her way to a pin just before the end of the first period. After a trio of forfeits to the Spartans, Sunday and freshman Catherine Dutton both ended the meet on a high note, with the former coming away with a 10-0 tech fall and the latter needing just 25 seconds to pin her opponent. Having gotten five default wins, York came away with the 25-18 match victory.
