SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Tennis team picked up their first win of the year on Wednesday afternoon at Shepherd with a 4-3 final score.
The Rams began the match with a lead, as they were able to win at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take the doubles point. Despite the lost point, freshmen Noah Fisher and Dean Waterman captured some momentum for the Bobcats with a 7-5 win in their doubles match.
In singles play, Frostburg's top three of freshmen German Diaz (6-7, 6-2, 10-8) and Cole Alcala (6-0, 6-1), along with sophomore Matt Bolen (6-3, 6-4), were able to put FSU within a point of taking the match. Fisher took on the hero role for the Bobcats, coming up with a huge 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 5 spot to secure the final 4-3 match win.
The result puts Frostburg at 1-2, while Shepherd falls to 0-1 on the year. This was FSU's final scheduled match for the Fall season, as they will return to match play in the Spring. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
