FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State men's and women's tennis teams celebrated senior day against St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday afternoon, with the women winning 6-1 and the men losing 6-1.

For the women, sophomores Rabiatu Ladan and Elizabeth Hixon got Frostburg a win in doubles, defeating Hannah Gorel and Brooke Oliver 6-3. Junior Cherise Jenkins and sophomore Jen Dieterle would collect the overall match point with a 6-1 win over Sophie Nuwar and Bella Sterner to give FSU a 1-0 lead for the meet.

Ladan, Hixon, Jenkins, and Dieterle would all win their singles matches, joined by a win from junior Immanuella Odiong to put the final score at 6-1. Hixon (6-4, 6-0), Dieterle (6-1, 6-1), and Jenkins (6-1, 6-0) all won in straight sets. Odiong was forced into a three-set thriller, winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 over Hallie Hershey in the #1 singles match. Ladan also won in three sets, defeating Gorel 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

On the men's side, sophomore Ben Williams picked up the lone victory for the Bobcats, beating Justin Karolyi 6-4, 6-0. First-year Origen Grear paired with senior Geoff Goldring to battle hard against Sam Sheats and Nick Rohr, but ultimately fell 7-5. Sophomore Mason Hordubay came closest to win a second match for FSU, but fell in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to Kier Nacua.

Geoff Goldring and his brother Tim, along with Ryan Tomasic, were all honored on senior day for the Bobcats, who have their final match of the season Tuesday, April 27 against Fairmont State in Frostburg. Matches are set to start at 3 p.m., for more information head to frostburgsports.com.
