ELKINS, W. Va.-  The Frostburg State women's tennis team picked up their first victory of the season, narrowly beating Davis & Elkins by a score of 4-3. The men's team was swept by the Senators 7-0.  

The women started off strong, as sophomore Madison Toothman and junior Cherise Jenkins won the first doubles match of the day 6-2. They were joined in a doubles victory by sophomores Rabiatu Ladan and Elizabeth Hixson, who shut-out their opponents 6-0.  

Hixson also won her singles match over Julianna Singleton 6-0, 6-1. Shea Przywieczerski would later also win her singles match 6-2, 6-1 over Heidi Daniels, before sophomore Jen Dieterle clinched the Bobcat victory with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Elysia Cain. This was the first victory for the women's team since a 6-1 win over Hood on March 7, 2020, the last match played of the 2019-20 season. 

On the men's side, the team of senior Tim Goldring and Mason Hordubay got closest to a doubles victory, however they fell just short 6-4. In singles play, senior Geoffrey Goldring won the most games of any Senator in a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Vinicius Azeredo. Sophomore Ryan Tomasic and first-year Origen Grear also took games in both sets, as they both lost 6-1, 6-3 to their opponents.  

Frostburg returns to the courts Saturday, March 27 as they continue their weekend road trip at West Virginia State, matches are set to start at 1 p.m. For more information head to frostburgsports.com.
