SALEM, W. Va.- The women's basketball team traveled to Salem, W. Va. where their attempted comeback came up short, falling 83-70. 

 

 Salem came out on fire, as the Tigers shot 7-9 from three and shut down the Bobcat offense, taking a lead of 35-10 into the second quarter. 

 

In the second quarter, sophomore Samiya Esema would slowly start to close the gap, getting FSU's first six points of the quarter, then would be helped with a three-pointer from junior Maggie Sharp. After a layup from Sharp at the end of the half, the Tigers would go into the locker room with a 45-26 lead.  

 

In the third quarter, the Bobcats would claw their way back with senior Shelby Funchess heating up, along with some offense from sophomore Rhiana Hall. A jumper from senior Morgan Dombroski got FSU to within five at 53-48, but the Tigers would keep the lead at the end of the quarter 56-50. 

 

The fourth quarter started with a layup from Hall to get to 56-52, but Salem responded with back-to-back buckets to go back up by nine at 61-52. Frostburg wouldn't be able to get within seven from that point, as the Tigers ended the night with the victory 83-70.   

 

Funchess would lead the team in points with 16, while Dombroski finished with a double-double, scoring 10 points and leading the team in rebounds with 12.  

 

With the loss, the Bobcats drop to 2-9 and the Tigers rise to 3-7 on the season. Frostburg will next face Seton Hill Friday, December 31 in Bobcat Arena at 1 PM. For more information and updates, visit www.frostburgsports.com.
