Van Dyk's Goal Not Enough in Field Hockey Loss

FROSTBURG, Md.- The Frostburg State Field Hockey team dropped their final home game of the season on Wednesday evening.

IUP started the game with a quick goal from Carly Fordham on a penalty stroke just over five minutes into the game. Frostburg had a few good chances two minutes apart, as freshman Olivia Wenzel and sophomore Heidi Van Dyke were both denied by goalkeeper Amanda Zaner, then senior Taylor Hackett had her shot saved by defender Rory Cahill.

The Crimson Hawks doubled their lead just a minute into the second quarter, as Fordham got her second goal of the game to make the score 2-0 going into halftime.

Blaise Cugini and Rory Chaill scored back-to-back goals for IUP in the third period for a 4-0 lead.

Frostburg's highlight of the evening came on a fantastic run from Van Dyk, as she slipped the ball past Zaner and into the net for her team-leading third of the season.

With the loss, Frostburg falls to 1-13 while IUP improves to 9-4. FSU returns to action Saturday, October 23 as they travel to take on nationally ranked West Chester for 1 p.m. contest. For information and updates stay tuned at frostburgsports.com.
