FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State swimming teams both captured victories over Alderson Broaddus Saturday afternoon but fell short to Fairmont State.
The men won 143-9 over Alderson Broaddus and lost 119-77 to Fairmont State while the women were victorious 123-48 over Alderson Broaddus and were defeated 123-71 to Fairmont State.
The women's swimming team won a pair events and placed five in the top two while the men's team had a trio of victories and eight more finishes in the top two slots.
The women captured a victory in the 100-meter butterfly from sophomore Aubree Morris (1:15.22). Morris was also a key part of the 200-meter medley relay team that placed second with a time of (2:16.05), joined by first-year Rayna Cicen, sophomore Haley Benedictis, and senior Elizabeth Myers. Morris, Meyers, and Cicen were joined by senior Megan Culbertson placing second in the 400-meter freestyle relay (4:38.74).
Culbertson took home silver in the 200-meter individual medley (2:48.40), and Myers placed second in the 50-meter freestyle (30.90). Cicen earned first place in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of (1:15.67), while Benedictis placed second in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:10.30).
On the men's side, Bobcat junior swimmer Connor Gioffreda set another US Paralympic S6 record in the 400-meter freestyle, touching the wall in 5:50.08 in fifth place. First-year Myles Henderson captured gold in the 400-meter freestyle (4:46.35) while also placing second in the 800-meter freestyle (9:47.95).
Sophomore Luke Russell earned a first place victory in the 50-meter freestyle (25.10), and junior Anthony Giuseppetti took home a pair of second place finishes in both the 100-meter freestyle (56.16) and 200-meter freestyle (2:01.98). Junior swimmer Brady Peterson earned silver in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of (1:02.37).
Peterson was also a key part of the 400-meter freestyle relay team that placed second (3:50.17), joined by Giuseppetti, Russell, and first-year swimmer Quincy Page. The men placed second in the 200-meter medley relay (1:57.80) with efforts from Page, senior Hunter McFalls, first-year James Harmon, and sophomore Jacob Tantalla.
The swimmers return to the pool for senior day on Saturday, February 1 as they host the Falcons of Notre Dame College. Meet begins at 1:00 pm.
