FROSTBURG, Md. – Following a 17-19 season just one year ago, the Frostburg State baseball team has rebounded in a big way and will make its seventh Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Tournament appearance in the last eight seasons on Friday morning.
Frostburg, the four seed in the conference tournament, will face sixth-seeded York (Pa.) on Friday, May 4 at top-seeded Salisbury with first pitch sated for 9:00 a.m. Frostburg enters the game with a 23-12 overall record while the Spartans are 19-17-1 overall.
The conference tournament features a new double-elimination pod system beginning this season that separates the tournament into two weekends. The tournament will consist of two three-team pods hosted by the top two seeds in the conference, which are Salisbury (No. 1) and Christopher Newport (No. 2). A full schedule is available at the bottom of this preview.
Frostburg capped the regular season with a 15-14 walkoff victory over York on Monday at Bob Wells Field to earn the four seed in the tournament and force the Spartans into the six spot. The Bobcats rallied from deficits of 4-0, 12-4 and 14-7, ultimately notching eight runs over the final two innings while not surrendering an out in the ninth.
Frostburg will play its second game of the day on Friday against host Salisbury at either 12:30 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. (depending on the result of FSU/YCP).
