Field Hockey Loses To No. 15 CNU

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg field hockey team had its season come to a close on Sunday afternoon as it lost to 15th-ranked Christopher Newport, 7-0, in the first round of the CAC Tournament.
 
The Captains (11-5) advance to the CAC Tournament semifinals after scoring four goals in the first half en route to the win.
 
CNU outshot Frostburg (2-17) 32-7 and the hosts put 19 of those shots on goal.
 
Four different players scored for Christopher Newport in the opening half of play. Courtnie Greene registered one goal and one assist and added the final goal of the game on a penalty stroke at 69:26.
 
Senior Sam Schaffer led the way on the attack for Frostburg with four shots, three on goal. Sophomore Sam Coffey finished with two shots.
 
In goal, junior Sierra Smizer notched 10 saves, her fourth-straight game with 10 or more saves and nine game this season.
 
Frostburg had an offensive surge in the 42nd minute as Schaffer posted three shots that were saved, including two defensive saves from CNU.
