Bobcats Best Lions 5-2

FROSTBURG, Md. – In a show of offensive domination, the Frostburg State women's soccer team bested the Penn State Altoona Lions, 5-2, Tuesday night.

Frostburg scored early in the fifth minute of the game, when an assist from senior Kelsey Wentworth led to a Bobcat goal by senior Erin Worthman.

The Bobcats next goal came at the 7:22 minute mark, when Worthman drove in a corner kick, which was tapped by Wentworth to teammate Chelsie McCoy who knocked in the goal.

Junior Leah Yurko had an impressive night, knocking in two goals for the Bobcats. Her first came in the 24th minute of the first half when she tapped in a goal unassisted. Yurko scored her second goal early in the second half (46:15) off another unassisted goal.

Penn State Altoona made a drive shortly after when Emily Casey scored off an assist from Rhi Miller at the 46:29 minute mark.

However, Frostburg answered again in the 64th minute when sophomore Melanie Bell scored unassisted.

The Lions rounded out the scoring for the night when  Brittany Allison knocked in an unassisted goal in the 88th minute of the game.

Three Bobcat keepers saw action tonight; senior Paige Gray had one save on the night and walked away with the win. Freshmen Rhianna Lapen made one save and junior Karen Belteton also had a save for the Bobcats.

Penn State Altoona's Mackenzie Strubar made six saves on the night, while teammate Sydney Emershaw made one.

The Bobcats return to action when they host Stevenson Sept. 1, at 7 pm.
