WASHINGTON, Pa. – Frostburg State fell behind by three goals in the first half and never recovered in a 5-1 loss at Washington & Jefferson, Wednesday.
Box ScoreAmanda Steffey finished with a hat trick, including two of W&J's first three goals, as she helped the Presidents improve to 4-1 on the season. The hosts outshot Frostburg 22-9, including a 14-5 advantage in the high-scoring first half.
Bobcat senior Courtney Abell scored FSU's lone goal at 27:20 to pull to within 3-1 as junior Alexandra Darrow handed out her team leading fifth assist.
Washington & Jefferson moved ahead by three goals again less than three minutes later when Catherine Beaudoin scored at 30:57. Steffey closed the first half scoring with an unassisted tally at 33:22.
After a combined six first-half goals, neither team scored again, while W&J held an 8-4 lead in shots in the second half.
Frostburg freshman keeper Nicole Leighty stopped seven shots and allowed two goals in 42:40.
FSU returns to action on Saturday at Virginia Wesleyan at 12:00 pm.
