SYDNEY, Va. – The Frostburg State women's swim team ended their dual meet with decisive wins over Hollins (145-51) and Guilford (144-32), Saturday afternoon. The men's team fell short to Hampden-Sydney 106-90.
Results
The Bobcat women won both relays for the day, and swam for nine individual first-place finishes overall.
Sophomore Maci Quintanilla led off for Frostburg in the 200-meter medley relay, followed by juniors Kaitlyn Donch, Jackie Franzak, and Meredith Johnson. Pushing off on the right foot, the women ended the first event of the meet in 2:23.22 for the first win of the day.
Freshman Meaghan Dix conquered two individual events for the Bobcats. She and sophomore Chyenne Marquez took first and second place in the 800-meter free with final times of 11:52.90 and 13:41.22, respectively, followed by Dix's second win in the 400-meter free (5:50.39).
Donch took a pair of individual wins in the 200-meter IM (2:49.54), and the 200-meter free (2:26.51) as she finished ahead of freshman Chrissy Alessandrini, who touched the wall at 2:35.19.
Continuing the four-event winning streak, Johnson took a set of events in the 100-meter backstroke (1:21.95), and the 50-meter free in 31.02, followed by Franzak's win in the 100-meter butterfly (1:16.83).
In the 100-meter free, junior Sarah King finished in 1:10.94 for first place over Hollins and Guilford with a ten-second lead.
The Bobcats teamed up in their final event of the day, as they won first place in the 200-meter free relay. King, Quintanilla, freshman Sydney Fazenbaker, and junior Katie Hoag completed their last lap with 2:21.96 on the board.
On the men's side, freshman Aleksandar Combs netted a pair of victories in the 400-meter free (5:13.94), and 800-meter free with a final time of 10:36.38. Junior Jacob Aylward finished behind Combs for second place (10:40.61) in the 800-meter free.
Sophomore Jonathan Shepard posted additional points for the Bobcats with first-place finishes in the 200-meter IM (2:29.41), and in the 100-meter breast (1:12.42).
Senior Jesse Gregory put up a final fight in the 100-meter free, completing the event in 59.38 for the final win on the men's side.
Frostburg swimmers are back in the pool at Mary Washington on February 1
st at 1:00 pm.
