NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Frostburg State field hockey team opened Capital Athletic Conference action with a 5-0 shutout loss to ninth ranked Christopher Newport, Saturday.

The Bobcats (4-6) gave a valiant effort in the first half and battled the undefeated Captains (10-0) to a scoreless tie at intermission. Bobcat keeper Megan Grimm faced 16 shots in the first half and kept the Bobcats in the contest with 10 saves.
However, the second half was not as friendly to the Bobcats as host CNU scored five times to earn the win. Kelsey Clark scored three goals and Allie Hackbarth added two assists.
Grimm finished the game with 15 saves. Senior Tiffany Weschler made two defensive saves, while freshman Alisha Salomon made one. Sophomore Jackie Best and freshman Eleanor Vials each attempted one shot.
FSU returns to the field on Tuesday at Bridgewater at 6:00 pm.
