Field Hockey Shuts Out Transylvania In Rematch

LEXINGTON, K.Y. – The Frostburg State field hockey team scored three second-half goals to secure a 4-0 shutout of Transylvania, Sunday.

The Bobcat win pushes their record to 3-5 overall and avenges an earlier season loss to Pioneers (4-4).

Sophomore Jackie Best scored two of FSU's three goals in the second stanza and is now second on the team with four goals this fall.

Frostburg outshot Transylvania 26-9 and struck in the early going when senior Becky Randel scored an unassisted goal just 4:35 into action. The game remained in favor of the Bobcats through the remainder of the first half, despite FSU registering 10 shots in the first 35 minutes.

Best scored her first goal in the 44th minute for a 2-0 advantage. Less than four minutes after that, she connected on her second score at 48:13 to increase the visitor lead to 3-0.

Freshman Ivy Meissner found junior Courtney Abell for the game's final goal with just 27 seconds left on the game clock for the 4-0 victory.

Sophomore keeper Megan Grimm posted seven saves in helping the Bobcats to their second shutout win of the season. Sara Aschbacher allowed all four goals and made 14 saves in the loss.

Frostburg State hosts Sweet Briar this Wednesday at 5:00 pm.
