FSU Slugs Its Way To a 15-7 Victory Over York (Pa.)

FROSTBURG, Md. – With the ball soaring out of Bob Wells Field,  the Frostburg State baseball team used a pair of seven-run innings to put York (Pa.) away early, taking the first game of the three-game CAC series, 15-7.

Box Score

Nearly two months have gone by with 29 games in the rear view mirror but the Bobcats finally found themselves in front of the home crowd for the first time this season and they gave the baseball fans quite a show.

Frostburg State (19-11, 6-7 CAC) grabbed an early lead in the bottom of the first with one swing of the bat. With two outs, Kevin Kean sent a towering fly ball over the left field fence to give the Bobcats a 1-0 advantage.

The long ball would continue for the Bobcats in the second inning. Dylan Shupe led things off with a homer of his own that smacked off of the left field foul pole. Zach Keeler and Ryan McGuigan followed up with back to back singles before Jon Keeler bunted them over. Two more runs would come across before Kean found himself up to bat again. With two men on, the Frostburg center fielder blasted his second home run in as many innings. Following suit, Rob Jennings hit a mammoth shot over the left field fence, thus signifying the first occurrence of back-to-back jacks for the Bobcats this season. FSU now held an 8-0 lead after two.

The Spartans (15-14, 5-8 CAC) got lone runs in the third and fourth innings to cut the deficit to six but that is as close as they would get.

Frostburg put seven more runs on the board in the fourth with the help of three doubles from Matt Donaldson, J.K. Filauro, and Garrett Price.

The Bobcats had an outstanding day offensively but the defense looked somewhat sloppy at times as they committed five errors in the game that led to three unearned runs.

Kyle McCormack snagged the win on the mound to improve to 3-1 on the season. McCormack came in and gave the Bobcats two innings of solid relief after Kenny Georgius had tossed the first four innings, giving up just one earned run on four hits while striking out four.

Kean finished the day with four RBI, all coming on his two home runs. Jennings added three RBI and McGuigan and Shupe each had three hits for the Bobcat lineup.

For the visiting Spartans, first baseman Adam Bartholomew led the way with three hits and two others finished with two hits.

FSU will wrap up its CAC regular season with a doubleheader at Bob Wells Field against York (Pa.) starting at 1 pm.
