FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Twentieth ranked Mary Washington scored eight of the game’s first nine goals en route to a 16-8 CAC victory over Frostburg State in women’s lacrosse action, Saturday.

The Eagles (5-4, 2-0) opened and closed the first half with a pair of 3-0 runs and gathered a 5-0 run in between to grab an 11-4 lead at halftime.
FSU (3-3, 1-1) scored three quick goals over a span of just 1:40 that brought it to within 8-4 with just 3:20 left in the first. However, UMW closed out the stanza with a 3-0 run of its own.
The second half went back-and-forth as Mary Washington held a 5-4 scoring edge. The two teams traded back-to-back goals to open the half.
Senior Katelyn Kesecker scored three second-half goals to power the Bobcats in scoring. She scored two-straight goals over a 25 second span nearing the midway point of the final stanza. Senior Taylor Cassatt finished with two goals, one in each half, while senior Myra Derbyshire had one goal and one assist, both during FSU’s 3-0 first-half run. Senior Allie Welsh handed out two assists.
Defensively, senior Naomi Swann stopped 15 shots in the loss, Cassatt won eight draw controls and sophomore Jessica Jones paced the lineup with five ground balls.
Nine different players found the net for UMW in their second league win of the season. Corinne Wiederkehr scored five times and Kelley Torrey had one goal and six assists.
FSU returns to the field this Wednesday when it hosts St. Vincent at 4:00 pm.
