BETHANY, W.Va. – Senior Becky Randel scored twice and handed out three assists and the Frostburg State field hockey team scored four goals in the second half to cruise to a 6-0 shutout of Bethany (W.Va.), Monday night.
The Bobcats (5-8) stopped a small three-game losing streak with the non-conference victory over the Bison (1-6).
Randel had a hand in both FSU goals in the opening half of play. She found junior Katie Farr for the game's first score at 25:54. Less than a minute later, freshman Eleanor Vials attempted a shot that was saved by Bethany keeper Jacqueline Harrison. However, Randel was there to knock the loose ball in the net for the 2-0 lead.
The second half, however, contained a higher offensive output for the Bobcats as they tacked on four goals for their fourth shutout win of the season.
Sophomore Ashley Johnson started the second-period scoring when she connected on a shot off a penalty corner from Randel in the 47th minute.
Senior Amanda Lennon made the score 4-0 when she scored off a scramble in front of the net at 52:09.
Randel added her second goal of the contest in the 58th minute off a rebounded shot from junior Katie Farr.
Sophomore Kate Bickerstaff capped the evening with her first goal of the season in the 60th minute for the 6-0 final. Randel was credited with her third assist of the evening on the game's final goal.
Sophomore Megan Grimm and freshman Jacqueline Gover each played a half of action and combined for the shutout. Both keepers made four saves for the Bobcats.
FSU returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Dickinson at 4:00 pm.
