FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Junior Courtney Abell scored two goals for the Frostburg field hockey team, but the visiting Bobcats suffered an 11-2 defeat to nationally-ranked Mary Washington, Saturday.

The Bobcats (6-13, 1-5 CAC) surrendered five goals in the first half to the Eagles (15-1, 4-1 CAC) before Abell was able to pull one back at 29:43 off an assist from sophomore Jackie Best to make the score 5-1 going into half.
Mary Washington would add two more goals to start the second half before Abell added her second goal of the day and third of the season to make the score 7-2 (50:25). The Eagles would find the net four more times to close the scoring. Sophomore Jenna Steele had a hat trick for UMW, while senior Caitlin Baker and freshman Ashlin Jones each contributed two goals of their own.
Frostburg freshman Alisha Salomon came into the day tied for second in the nation in defensive saves with 15, and she added to that number with three more saves against the Eagles.
FSU sophomore goalkeeper Megan Grimm made 14 saves in the first half, and freshman keeper Jacqueline Gover came in to make 13 saves in the second half. Junior goalie Emily Badis made five saves for UMW.
The Bobcats return to action Tuesday when they host Bethany in their last regular season match at 7:00 pm at Bobcat Stadium.
