Field Hockey Scores First, But Falls to Bridgewater, 3-1

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Frostburg scored in the first six minutes, but could not continue that momentum as Bridgewater scored two late first half goals to defeat the Bobcats, 3-1, Tuesday evening.

Box Score

The Bobcats were the aggressors to begin the game as they accounted for the first three shots within the first six minutes of play.

Senior Becky Randel and sophomore Amber McCabe created two shot opportunities but it was sophomore Jackie Best who collected her eighth goal of the season off a rebound from McCabe's shot.

Best, who is currently tied for fourth in the Capital Athletic Conference for goals, gave the Bobcats the advantage until the Eagles struck back at 13:59.

The Eagles fired two shots at sophomore keeper Megan Grimm but the Bobcat defense remained resilient with the help of Alisha Salomon who notched one of her eventual two defensive saves of the contest.

Bridgewater finally found their opening as Taylor Prillaman connected with Galen Goodman who found the back of the cage to help the Eagles knot the score at 1-1.

Megan Grimm collected two more saves and the Eagles offense continued to put her to work as they attempted four shots as the first half clock dwindled.

Sophomore Rachel Loy scored back-to-back goals in the last five minutes to put the hosts up 3-1 to go into halftime.

Despite a combined 16 shot attempts by both teams in the second half, neither team could tally a score, finalizing a 3-1 win for the Eagles.

Grimm collected eight saves while enduring the loss. Eagle keeper Jessica Balsano needed just two saves in the win.

FSU returns to action on Thursday as they travel to non-conference opponent Bethany for a 7:00 pm contest.
