SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Five different players found the net for the Frostburg State University field hockey team as it downed Sweet Briar, 5-0, Wednesday.
Behind a commanding 16-1 edge in shots in the opening half, the Bobcats (4-6) jumped out to a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Sophomore Katie Farr starting things off for Frostburg with the first goal of the game and her first of the season at 16:53. Just over three minutes later, FSU grabbed a 2-0 cushion when junior Becky Randel found senior Alli Elliott for her team leading ninth goal of the year (20:03).
The tandem connected at 29:59 to cap the first half scoring. This time, Elliott found Randel for the 3-0 lead.
The Bobcats wasted little time in the second half, adding to their lead just 1:15 into play. Senior Rachel Merritt scored an unassisted tally for a 4-0 advantage. Junior Tori Suess rounded out the scoring with her first goal of the year with less than 10 minutes to play for the 5-0 final.
Frostburg outshot the Vixens (0-5), 32-3, on the way to its second shutout win of the season. Senior keeper Maggie Edwards needed just one save for her fourth win. Her counterpart, Brooke Scott stopped 21 shots while suffering the loss.
The Bobcats return to the field this Saturday when they host Mary Washington at 5:00 pm.
