Baseball Falls in Series Finale

CORZET, Va. – The Frostburg State baseball team fell in the series finale to Old Westbury, 14-6, on Sunday afternoon at West Albemarle High School.

Box Score

The Bobcats spotted Old Westbury five runs in the first two innings before tying the score in the bottom of fourth.  FSU scored two runs in the third on a groundout by John Barrett, and a double by Doug Anuszewski.

With two runners on in the bottom of the fourth, Mike Virbickis tripled to center field, scoring Daniel Jester and Jon Keeler.  Torian Cyrus then hit a single to score Virbickis and tied the score at 5.

However, the Panthers exploded for five runs in the fifth to chase Frostburg starter Joe Markiewicz and it gave them all the breathing room they would need.  Old Westbury tacked on another run in the seventh and added three more in the ninth.

John Northam knocked in Will Warrick in the ninth for Frostburg’s final tally.

Virbickis was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs to lead the offense.  Markiewicz took the loss for Frostburg.

Frostburg hits the road again next weekend when they open conference play at Mary Washington.
