Dickinson senior Lauren Kelly got to work early and beat Frostburg goalie Maggie Edwards to open the scoring for Dickinson (2-1) after just two minutes of play. After two consecutive saves by Edwards, the Red Devils’ Celeste Pilato found the back of the net. Pilato would assist on the next Dickinson goal, finding Natalie Polk to make it 3-0. Sophomore Katie Langan would strike next and pushed the Red Devil lead to four.
The Bobcats’ (1-4) Rachel Merritt added the first of her two goals and ended the Dickinson run in the 21st minute. However, the Red Devil attack could not be slowed down in the first half as Alex Boorse would make the score 5-1 with 14 minutes remaining.
Becky Randel added a goal just before halftime to make the score 5-2 in favor of the home team. Randel has now scored in back-to-back games for the Bobcats.
Rachel Merritt added her second goal of the game early in the second half, but the Bobcat offense could not get on track and mustered only one more shot in the game.
Maggie Edwards, the CAC Defensive Player of the Week, made 12 consecutive saves to end the contest and shut out Dickinson in the second half.
The field hockey team returns to play next Friday, Sept. 16, at Eastern Mennonite University at 7:00 p.m.
