Men's Tennis Defeats DII Davis & Elkins

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State University men's tennis team posted its second-straight win Monday afternoon with a 6-3 win over NCAA Div. II Davis & Elkins.

Senior Ramon Gutierrez (Gilbert, Ariz./West Ferris Secondary School) and junior Aaron Littlejohn (Severna Park, Md.) each picked up two wins on the afternoon following three-straight wins in the doubles competition.

Littlejohn and junior Mike Stevenson (Bowie, Md./Bowie) combined for a 8-3 victory in the No. 1 doubles and Gutierrez and junior Matt Mansfield (Ocean City, Md.) easily took the No. 2 doubles match, 8-2. Juniors Tyler Forster (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) and Eddie McMurtrie (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) wrapped up the doubles competition with a 9-8 victory in the No. 3 match.

Littlejohn captured his second win of the afternoon with a No. 2 singles victory, 6-1, 6-1. Gutierrez had a hard-fought No. 3 singles match in which he came out on top, 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (8). Freshman Zawdi Coke (Upper Marlboro, Md.) rounded out the victories for Frostburg with a win in the No. 6 singles match, 9-8 (8).

The Bobcats return to the court when they travel to St. Mary's City, Md. for a Capital Athletic Conference match with St. Mary's (Md.) at 4:00 pm.
