CROZET, Va. – The Frostburg State baseball team split a Sunday afternoon double header with non-conference opponent Allegheny, dropping the first game 10-5 while rallying back to take the second, 4-3 in extra innings.

The Gators (1-2) scored their first run of the ballgame off a sacrifice fly in the top half of the third inning. The 1-0 lead was short lived as the Bobcats (7-3) put up four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Junior
Matt Greene (Westminster, Md./South Carroll (Hagerstown CC)) hit an RBI single down the left field line to score senior
Jeff Kroboth (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) and tie the game at one. FSU score its final three runs of the inning off back-to-back doubles from senior
Joe Garrity (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) and sophomore
Doug Anuszewski (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty). Frostburg State led 4-1 after three innings.
The Gators used three three-run innings to take the lead, 10-4 after six innings.
Greene led off the bottom of the seventh with a homerun down the left field line to cut the Gator lead to 10-5.
Despite two shut down innings from junior
David Lanier (Laurel, Md./Atholton), the Gators were able to hang on to the lead and take the first game 10-5.
Lanier finished the day pitching 2.0 strong innings out of the bullpen facing nine batters and giving up only two hits.
The Bobcats struck first in the second game of the twinbill, scoring the first two runs of the ball game in the bottom of the third. Greene picked up his third and fourth RBI of the afternoon doubling down the left field line to score Kroboth and junior
Ben Oberman (Loganville, Ga./Loganville). FSU had the lead 2-0 going into the fourth.
AC scored one run on three hits in the top of the fourth to get within one of the Bobcats, 2-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Kroboth laid down a perfect sac bunt to score
Andrew Derr (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick), who doubled down the left field line, and increase the Bobcat lead to 3-1.
The Gators answered with two runs of their own in the top half of the sixth to tie the game at three a piece. Senior
Greg Beachy (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) came out in relief of freshman
Jordan Santak (New Castle, Del./Delcastle Technical) in the top of the sixth and pitched 2.1 shutout innings to pick up the win for the Bobcats.
Kroboth led off the eighth getting hit by a pitch to put the game winning run on first. He eventually advanced to third on a throwing error by the pitcher and a wild pitch. Junior
Daniel Heatwole (Dayton, Va./Turner Ashby (Hagerstown CC)) hit a single into right field to score Kroboth and win the game for FSU, 4-3.
Greene finished the day going a combined 4-7 with four RBIs and two runs scored in both games, including double and a homerun.
The Bobcats return to action when they travel to Fredericksburg, Va. to take on Mary Washington at 3:00 pm.
