Field Hockey Falls to No. 3 Ranked Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. - Frostburg State was held to just two shots and No. 3 ranked Salisbury ran away for a 6-0 win in college field hockey action, Sunday afternoon.

The Sea Gulls (5-0) scored four first-half goals to put the game out of reach early on. Meanwhile, the FSU (5-2) offense was shut down by the SU defense was was limited to just two shots, both in the second half.

Kandice Hancock scored what proved to be the game winner 2:46 into action. She found the net from 10 yards out on a pass from Courtney Webster as SU took a 1-0 lead.

Webster assisted the second goal as she found Michelle Rowe who scored to make it a 2-0 Salisbury lead. The final two goals of the opening half came off the stick of Caitlyn Ruffus. Her first goal was scored at 33:48 from Paige Lowrey and she managed one more goal at 34:26 off a feed from Lauren Correll.

The Sea Gulls controlled most of the opening half as they led 13-0 in shots and 13-0 in penalty corners.

At 55:31, Kelsey Fetsko scored her first goal of the season to give the hosts a 5-0 lead and with less than three minutes left in the game Allison Bloodsworth sealed the scoring with hr first tally of the season.

The Bobcats managed five penalty corners in the second half and those two shots.

Sophomore Samantha Foland (Myersville, Md./Middletown) played the entire game in net for the Bobcats making seven saves and allowing six goals. Claire Davey-Karlson earned ther win for the Gulls while her second-half replacement Ann Cooke stopped both FSU shots.

FSU is back in on Wednesday September 17 when it travels to Washington & Jefferson for a 7:00 pm game.
