FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State field hockey team was shutout by DeSales University, 2-0, in its season opener, on Sunday afternoon.
FSU (0-1) and DU (1-0) were almost even in shots with the Bulldogs taking seven and the Bobcats having six.
At the 20:51 mark, DU's Alyssa Maltese scored the first goal of the game. Maltese then assisted Jamie Matthews with her goal with under four minutes left in the first half, making the score 2-0. Neither team would go on to score in the second half.
FSU was led in shots by senior
Michelle Frost (Jessup, Md./Hammond) who had two shots on goal. Freshmen
Kate Oros (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) and
Brandi Mixell (Fort Littleton, Pa./Forbes Road) would each get a shot off forcing the Bulldog goalkeeper Jen Bessinger to keep FSU from scoring by making the save.
Sophomore goalie
Samantha Foland (Myersville, Md./Middletown) made four saves in the loss while Bessinger had four in the win.
FSU is back on the field in Bobcat Statdium against Randolph Macon on September 6th at 4:00 pm.
