VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Junior Sammy Stalter (La Plata, Md./La Plata) scored two goals as the Frostburg State field hockey team held on for a 3-2 win over Virginia Wesleyan, Sunday.
The Bobcats (9-3) trailed 1-0 just 7:03 into the contest after Whitney King scored to give the Marlins (2-8) the early lead.
Stalter then netted back-to-back goals over a 20 minute span as FSU pulled ahead 2-1. Senior Aly Erickson (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) was credited with an assist on the first of Stalter's two scores.
Just over two minutes into the second half, freshman Brandi Mixell (Fort Littleton, Pa./Forbes Road) extended the Bobcat lead to 3-1 with her first collegiate goal.
Virginia Wesleyan was able to find the net one more time in the 43rd minute as Courtney Eisert closed the gap to 3-2.
Sophomore Samantha Foland (Myersville, Md./Middletown) stopped five shots in net for the Bobcats while picking up her ninth win of the season. Chelsea Baker made seven saves in the loss for Virginia Wesleyan
Frostburg State hosts Wilson on Wednesday at Bobcat Stadium at 4:00 pm.
