Frostburg State University Athletics

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Frostburg State Women's Soccer team fell 1-0 on the road to Point Park on Sunday afternoon.
 
FSU nearly took the lead within the first four minutes, as senior Madison Hinton met a corner with her head but a PPU defender was there to clear off the line. Neither side generated much through the next half hour, with the Pioneers putting an effort wide and junior Cassidy Paige hitting a shot comfortably saved by Nicole Kuchinski. As the half wound down, junior Elena Fernandez had an effort blocked from just outside the box, as did Point Park, taking things scoreless into the break.
 
Frostburg came into the second half with much more energy, as junior Madison Hobson nearly netted from 25 yards out, going just high and wide of the top left corner. Senior Chelsea Pettyjohn then fired wide while junior Rayiah Davis hit right at Kuchinski. Point Park was able to get themselves up the field after 15 minutes, putting a couple shots off target before shooting one directly at senior Mia Graff in goal.
 
Approaching 15 minutes left in the contest, Davis nearly scored from close range but was denied by Kuchinski, with Fernandez hitting over the bar and sophomore Reese Rizzo seeing her shot palmed away for a corner. PPU sent another shot wide of the mark before freshman Kelly Dougherty and junior Ana Davis saw their efforts blocked.
 
With just under nine minutes to go, junior Mollie Rebuck had a great chance to score, however Kuchinski was able to get in the way of the ball finding the back of the net, as Paige then shot a volley high. As the clock ticked inside two minutes, the Pioneers earned a late throw-in deep in Bobcat territory, as a scramble in the box allowed Rebecca Pihlgren to turn and fire from close range into the back of the net as the winning goal.
 
FSU out-shot Point Park 13-8 with six efforts on target to the hosts' two.
 
With the loss, Frostburg drops to 4-2-1 on the year, while the Pioneers improve to 4-3-0. The Bobcats will remain on the road as they next travel to Glenville State on Wednesday, September 23 at 6 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
