LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Despite going a man down in the second half, the Frostburg State Men's Soccer team secured a 1-1 draw in their 2026 season opener against Lock Haven on Thursday evening.
 
LHU had the first couple chances of the game just over five minutes in, with one shot being blocked before the next was pulled wide. Just as the teams were truly settling into things, a storm swept over the area, causing an hour-long delay in the match. Coming out of the extended break, FSU was the better side for long stretches, as the best chance fell to graduate Mateo Cuadros, who was played through on goal by sophomore David Williams, but his effort was straight at keeper Ethan Beck.
 
Through the next 20 minutes, sophomores Christ Fopossi and Spencer Davis each had volleys go high over the bar, as the Bobcat defense kept the Bald Eagles at bay. Williams then had an effort blocked while Lock Haven saw a header go over the bar from a corner. With just over five minutes to go until the half, a long throw-in from senior Brian Gomez was flicked on by freshman Lynghton Romage, as in the chaos a handball was whistled, giving Frostburg a penalty.
 
Fopossi stepped up and looked to pass the ball into the left side of the net but Beck dove the same way and parried away to keep things scoreless. Just three minutes later, however, Cuadros collected a loose ball and played a ball down the line for sophomore Inzaghi Harmon, who was able to drive into the box and pass across to wide open junior Dom Good at the back post, slotting home for a 1-0 halftime lead.
 
In the second half, LHU came out with renewed energy and effort, sending an early shot wide before they were given a huge advantage after just five minutes. Having received a yellow card in the first half, Williams was called for a high kick and was sent off for another yellow, putting the Bobcats down a man with 40 minutes still to play. FSU's defense held firm, limiting the Bald Eagles to just one high shot through the next passage of play.
 
Lock Haven thought they had equalized after another foul gave them a free kick 25 yards from goal, however freshman Julian Quirk swiftly dove to his right, getting a hand on the curling effort to keep it out. LHU threw bodies at Quirk's goal but couldn't create much from open play, as their only shot through 15 minutes was straight at the Frostburg netminder. Working mainly on the counter, sophomore Frank Stare had a chance to double the Bobcat advantage but his shot from the left side of the 18 was much too close to Beck.
 
As the game entered the final quarter hour, the Bald Eagles used a long throw to get the ball in the box, as it pinballed around and eventually deflected off an FSU defender and past quirk to tie things at one apiece. Frostburg nearly responded immediately, as Gomez put a throw into the box that bounced kindly at the back post for Fopossi, whose volley beat Beck but cannoned off the post and out. With time ticking down, LHU scrambled for a go-ahead score but could only get one more effort on goal against Quirk, making an easy save to end the match at a draw.
 
The sides were even in nearly every category, each putting up eleven total shots and four on target, with the Bald Eagles holding a 4-1 edge in corners.
 
With the result, both teams begin their season at 0-0-1, as Frostburg will remain on the road to face Ohio Dominican on Sunday, August 30 at 1:30 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
