BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. - On the eve of the 2026 Mountain East Conference Baseball Championship, the Mountain East Conference announced its all-conference team and individual award-winners.
Frostburg State had eight total players receiving All-MEC accolades, putting three on the First Team and the Second Team alongside two as Honorable Mention.
Freshman Drew Jourdan and juniors Jackson Schalick and John Smith all took First Team honors. Schalick was the team's leader on offense, leading FSU in batting average (.370), hits (61), runs (52), doubles (18), stolen bases (20) and walks (27), while finishing second in RBI (51). Jourdan played in all 50 games, primarily as a third baseman, where he batted .290 with 40 runs scored and 25 RBI. On the mound, Smith led all qualified Bobcat pitchers in ERA (3.06), innings pitched (61.2) and wins (7), while striking out 52 batters.Â
On the Second Team, freshman Tanner Cunningham joined sophomore Zach Dodson and junior Joey Serafin. Cunningham finished second on the team in batting average (.336), scoring 40 runs and driving in 24 RBI while stealing 15 bases. Despite his season being cut short due to injury, Dodson impressed in his nine starts, sporting a 2.74 ERA over 46 innings, striking out 48 batters without allowing a home run. Serafin was Frostburg's number one option in the bullpen, finishing with seven saves on the year, throwing 33.1 total innings with a 2.97 ERA to go with five wins.Â
Rounding out the accolades on the mound, sophomore Hunter Layhew and freshman Bryce Bauer each took a spot as Honorable Mention selections. Layhew led the Bobcats in starts (13) and strikeouts (57), going for 58.1 innings and a 4.17 ERA. Bauer had 10 total appearances, five of them being starts, as he held a 2.60 ERA with 38 strikeouts in 34.2 innings.Â
