Amos Produces Standout Goalkeeping Effort in Women's Lacrosse Road Win

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Frostburg State Women's Lacrosse team took down Point Park 16-3 in their road Friday match-up.

PPU took the opening draw, however senior Neila Haney quickly got FSU their first possession by causing a turnover, which led to the freshmen combination of Maddie Russell to Delaney Burrows for the game's first goal. Sophomore Liz Amos began her outstanding day in net by making a pair of saves over the next three minutes, as Russell converted a free position at the other end. After both goalkeepers made stops, a card shown to the Pioneers allowed Haney to find freshman Avery O'Hara for a 3-0 score with just over five minutes gone.

Haney then opened her scoring account off a free position as Amos produced another save, as Russell found O'Hara for her second of the day. Frostburg was then shown a yellow card, however Amos ensured that the shutout would continue by making a save and allowing her team to hold off the advantage. In the final three minutes, Point Park was plagued by fouls, as Russell netted on another 8-meter chance before going back-to-back with Haney on woman-up scores to take an 8-0 lead at the end of one.

The Pioneers opened the second period with a flurry of chances but couldn't find the back of the net, as one shot went wide, another clanged off the crossbar, and Amos denied once more. After getting the clear, junior Gianna Leonardi passed to Haney to fire home the ninth of the day. It would be another six minutes before the next goal, as FSU was thwarted by a combination of wide shots, the frame of the goal, and keeper Isabella Lavenice before Haney went on a solo run to get to a running clock at 10-0. Following two saves from Lavenice, a PPU turnover put Frostburg in transition, where Burrows passed low to Russell to hit nylon. The Bobcats were then shown another yellow card, as Point Park broke up the shutout on the advantage, taking the game into the half at 11-1.

Amos continued to impress coming out of the break, as she made two more saves before Haney put home another goal three and a half minutes in. Another Pioneer turnover allowed Burrows to net back-to-back chances, with Haney assisting on the second for a 14-1 score. Both sides had more turnovers than shots the rest of the way, as Amos and Lavenice combined for four saves through the final nine minutes.

As had been the theme most of the day, Amos produced an early stop in the fourth, then senior Emily Lamoreaux put in the opening score two minutes later. PPU responded in quick fashion, taking the resulting draw and putting home their second, as a pair of saves from new goaltender Elena Sinar resulted in another goal three minutes later for a 15-3 game. The Bobcat defense locked down the next five minutes, as Point Park had three turnovers in the stretch, the last one caused by sophomore Sophie Anderson, as Russell took advantage of a pass from senior Sydney Stone to net the final goal for the 16-3 win.

Haney and Russell led all scorers with five goals and a pair of assists apiece, while senior Sara Weingarden drove the defense with a caused turnover and five groundballs. Amos played the full 60 minutes, making 12 saves in net against just three goals allowed.

With the victory, Frostburg improves to 13-3 on the year, while Point Park drops to 5-11. FSU will return home for their regular season finale on Wednesday, April 22 at 5 p.m. to face Davis & Elkins. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
