Season-High Score Earns Acrobatics & Tumbling Senior Day Victory

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Acrobatics & Tumbling team defeated Presbyterian in their Saturday home meet 246.855-244.785.

During the meet, FSU honored 10 of its athletes as they conclude their Bobcat careers in Lana Cepeda, Callie Miller, Joanna Welch, Alicia Mansaray, Abby Shifflett, Lanie Brown, Ashtyn Evans, Kaitlyn Green, Eleanor Ohngren, and Morgan Bopp.

Both teams were evenly matched throughout much of the Compulsory Event, with each side winning a pair of heats and Frostburg narrowly taking a 36.40-36.30 advantage. In the Pyramid heat, FSU topped out at 9.65, while PC matched that score in the Toss. The Acro Event also started with honors even, as the 5-Element was a 9.55 for each squad. In the 6-Element, the Bobcats thought they could establish a further lead at 9.30-8.65, but the Blue Hose followed with a 9.75 in the 7-Element to limit the score deficit in the event to 28-27.95.

The high scoring continued into the Pyramid Event, with neither team scoring below a 9.50, as Presbyterian secured their first event win of the day at 29.20-29, thanks in part to a 9.90 in the Open Heat, while Frostburg had a 9.70 in the Inversion and a 9.8 in the Open. With the victory, PC was able to narrowly pull ahead 93.45-93.40 at the halftime break.

FSU was able to get a little breathing room in the Toss Event, as an 8.60-7.20 advantage in the 450 Salto proved to be the difference in winning 25.30-24.05. Despite taking four of the six available heats of the Tumbling Event, the Blue Hose still found themselves behind in both the event score and overall meet score. The Bobcats took wins in the Trio Pass at 7.85-5.65 and the Quad Pass at 7.20-7.05, doing just enough to come out ahead 47.775-46.425. Among the individual passes, Frostburg had impressive scores based off of their start values, with freshman Nayramis Rodriguez-Lopez (8.20/8.35), sophomore Bailey Miniefield (8.05/8.60), and Welch (8.475/8.75).

With a little over a two-point lead heading into the Team Event, FSU was able to score enough despite narrowly losing out on taking the event 80.86-80.38 for the 246.855-244.785 final.

With the win, Frostburg improves to 4-1 on the year, while Presbyterian drops to 0-6. The Bobcats next will face West Virginia State on the road Sunday, March 22 at 1 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
