Strong Second Half Leads Women's Rugby to Comeback Win Over La Salle

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Frostburg State women's rugby team won on the road against La Salle Saturday afternoon, erasing a double-digit first half deficit to emerge victorious 34-24.

Boosted by their home crowd, La Salle got on the board to open things up a try seven minutes into the contest. FSU answered just three minutes later, however, with sophomore Scout Spadoni scoring the opening try for the Bobcats, making the game 5-5 after both teams failed on their conversions. The Explorers would pick up two more tries and make one conversion, while keeping Frostburg off the scoreboard, leading at the half 17-5.

It took just two minutes for the Bobcats to score quickly to start the second half with a try from junior Isabel Meyer and a made conversion by sophomore Natalie Allen. Rolling with momentum, two minutes later the game was tied 17-17 with a try from junior LaJess Jordan and another conversion from Allen.

Over 10 minutes passed as each team went in search of a lead, as it would be FSU to strike after a sophomore Makenzie Link try to go up 22-17. Allen tacked on another four minutes later, then with six to go, sophomore Awa Kanta put the game on ice with a try followed by an Allen conversion for a 34-17 lead. La Salle scored their lone second half try with just two minutes on the clock to bring the final to 34-24.

With the win, the Bobcats are now 2-0 on the season, while the Explorers fall to 0-2. FSU will get a couple weeks of rest before returning to the road on Sunday, September 21 when they travel to New Haven for an 11 AM kickoff. For more information, please visit frostburgsports.com
