Sage's Scores Lead Women's Rugby to Road Win Over Mount St. Mary's

EMMITSBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Rugby team won a defensive battle against Mount St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon with a 15-12 final score.

After nearly 13 minutes of the sides trading possessions, the Mount got on the board first, breaking through the middle for a try while making the conversion for a 7-0 lead. FSU got high up the field on a couple occasions but weren't able to get the ball down for a try, as the defense was able to keep MSM away from the zone as well, with the half ending on just the seven points scored.

The Bobcats opened the second half with much more intensity, as they put their first score in after seven minutes, with junior Natalie Allen barreling through the left side and handing off to senior Camila Garcia to touch the ball down and make things 7-5. Five minutes later, sophomore Izzy Sage received a pass on the right side and broke through a pair of tackles before diving over the line and putting FSU ahead 10-7.

Frostburg continued to hold strong defensively, stopping Mount St. Mary's from getting much attacking threat, then 15 minutes from time, senior LJ Jordan hit a quick pass to Sage as she hit through the defensive wall and sprinted home for a 15-7 advantage. The Mount put together some late pressure, netting a try with just under two minutes to go but missed the conversion, as the Bobcats held on for the 15-12 final.

With the win, Frostburg improves to 3-3 while Mount St. Mary's drops to 0-6. FSU will next play their regular season finale at home on Saturday, October 31 for their Senior Day match against West Chester at 1 p.m.
