FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Acrobatics & Tumbling team secured a season-opening sweep of Kutztown and West Virginia State on Sunday afternoon.

Starting out in the Compulsory Event, the Bobcats took three of the first four heats, including high marks of 9.3 in the Pyramid and 9.1 in the Toss. KU had the lone other heat win, taking the Tumbling by .05 points to trail FSU narrowly 33.75-33.20, with WVSU scoring 21.80. A similar story unfolded in the Acro Event, where Frostburg won the 5-Element at 9.1 and the 6-Element at 8.35, but it would be the Golden Bears to put up the highest score with a 9.45 in the 7-Element. The Bobcats again took a narrow victory for the event at 26.80-26.60.

FSU was able to get a bit of breathing space during the Pyramid Event, taking advantage of a couple miscues by the other teams with an overall 26.00 to Kutztown's 23.65 and WVSU's 23.50. KU put up the highest heat score of any team with a 9.8 in the Open, but the Bobcats had taken the first two heats by over a half point each, combined with a 9.4 of their own in the latter heat. At halftime, Frostburg held the lead with 86.55 points, followed by Kutztown's 83.45 and the Yellow Jackets' 63.55.

Continuing their momentum into the second half, FSU secured their first event sweep of the day in the Toss, totaling an impressive 25.30 out of a possible 27.80 points. Their 450 Salto scored an 8.6 out of a possible 9, while the Open had the highest score of any team in the event at 8.75. The Tumbling Event was the most balanced of the meet, as each of the three teams took at least one heat, though the Bobcats led the way with three wins in the Duo, Quad, and Open passes. The Golden Bears ended up with the highest individual score with a 9.175 in the Aerial pass, as WVSU wasn't far behind with a 9.15 in the 6-Element, while Frostburg topped out at 8.70 on senior Nia Ivanov's Open pass.

Headed into the Team Event, the Bobcat advantage stood at nearly six points, leading KU 158.075-152.250 and the Yellow Jackets' 124.95. The Golden Bears made it a nervy ending, securing a 78.01 in their chance on the floor, though Frostburg was able to put up a 73.39, making their lead from the first five events count with a final score of 231.465-230.260-190.250.

With the win, Frostburg begins the year 2-0, with Kutztown at 1-1 and WVSU at 0-2. The Bobcats next have another tri-meet where they will travel to Glenville, WV to face the Pioneers and Wheeling in the Cardinals' inaugural season. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
