FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Rugby team hosted the Naval Academy in their second contest of the season, with Navy coming out on top by a score of 59-5.
Frostburg came into the game with a 1-0 record, after an opening win over Emory & Henry last weekend by a score of 39-5. The Bobcats second game was a much taller test than the first, facing off against instate opponent Navy. The Midshipmen traveled west to Frostburg with something to prove after falling in their season opener to Queens University of Charlotte 40-7.
Both teams couldn't have asked for a better day for the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The game got underway with Navy kicking off to the Bobcats. FSU and the Midshipmen exchanged possession to start things off, until Navy broke through to score around the 15-minute mark. After breaking the ice, Navy controlled the rest of the period, taking a 40-0 lead into the half.
The Bobcats came out with a determined mindset in the second half, only allowing 19 more points from the Midshipmen. The lone Frostburg try came in the final five minutes of the game, with freshman Scout Spadoni breaking through the end zone to make the final score 59-5.
The result takes both FSU and Navy to an 1-1 record on the season. The Bobcats get ready to start four straight road games, as they travel to play Kent State Saturday, September 14 for a 6 PM start. For more information please visit frostburgsports.com.
